COURSE SERIES: The Origins of Hispanic New Mexico, 1536-1704

Description:
This course outlines the early colonial history of New Mexico from the explorations of Alvar Nuñez Cabeza de Vaca and Francisco Vasquez de Coronado to the Reconquest of New Mexico by Don Diego de Vargas. Emphasis will be placed on the elements of culture derived from Spain and their synthesis with the Pueblo Indians in New Mexico. The story culminates with the Pueblo Revolt led by Pope (1680-1692) and the Reconquista lead by De Vargas (1692-1704).

Description: Learn about Anthropological Genetic Genealogy and the connection to New Mexican families in this three-part lecture series. Angel Cervantes is a History instructor and Project Administrator of the New Mexico DNA Project. The New Mexico DNA Project is a genetic database of the founding families of New Mexico that started in October of 2004.  Mr. Cervantes has discovered familial roots, migration patterns and other interesting facts based upon his research.
