Explore the language of visual communication by looking at design's rich history. Topics covered include the development of visual communications from the earliest pictographs to the work of contemporary designers and illustrators. Students complete a design project by the last class. Note: Equipment and materials cost about $25; a materials list will be available the first day of class. Suggested text: A History of Graphic Design by Philip B. Meggs. Prerequisite: None. Suggested: 55101.
