« back to classes page
The late Medieval period was the precursor to the intellectual and artistic expansion that gave rise to the Italian Renaissance and the rebirth of the modern world.  We begin to see art and architecture embracing aspects of ancient Rome and a revival of architectural sculpture and ornamentation of Christian churches. We will survey the art and architecture of the Romanesque era, the Age of Pilgrimages, and conclude with the Age of Cathedrals in the elaborate monumental buildings in stone of the Gothic era.
