With the implementation of ICD-10, you may need to upgrade from ICD-9. This course focuses solely on teaching you the skills you need for ICD-10 coding. It assumes that you already have the skills of a medical coder, including familiarity with how the industry works, medical terminology, pharmacology, and basic anatomy and pathophysiology. The course is not designed for those who have never completed medical coding training (the Professional Medical Coding and Billing course is meant for these individuals) or intended for experienced medical coders.
The ICD-10 for ICD-9 Coders course prepares medical coders to use the new ICD-10 code set, which all healthcare facilities and physicians' offices must begin using October 1, 2015. Topics studied advanced anatomy/physiology, advanced pathophysiology, and ICD-10 coding. Students receive one-on-one support from AHIMA-Approved ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainers and several industry codebooks.
This is a 24 hour course for those who have already taken a coding course (learning ICD-9) or who are working or have worked in the field of coding using ICD-9.
