Decades of research, including hundreds of published studies, have shed light on the accuracy of eyewitness testimony, yet the controversy continues. Jurors place heavy weight on eyewitness testimony, but should they? Are our memories accurate? Unconditional acceptance of eyewitness accounts may stem from a misunderstanding of how memory works. This class will examine the controversy using real life examples, briefly review how memory recall works and suggest ways of improving the accuracy of eyewitness identifications.
