A prolific poet, novelist and short story writer throughout his short life, Stephen Crane had substantial influence on twentieth century writers and scholars. We will read and discuss four of Crane's masterful works--The Red Badge of CourageThe Open BoatThe Bride Comes to Yellow Sky, and The Blue Hotel. All will be analyzed in relation to the convergent yet conflicting literary movements of veritism, naturalism and realism.
