Lyrics to the Black Sabbath hit, “Electric Funeral,” include the lines: “Earth lies in death beds, clouds cry water dead, tearing life away.” Those may have been sentiments shared by Sabbath fans everywhere the day Pat Boone released his heavy metal album (“No More Mr. Nice Guy”) which included a cover of Sabbath’s “Crazy Train.” The world was certainly insane; only months later Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gormé would cover a song by Soundgarden. When The Osbourne’s reality show hit the airwaves, the theme tune was none other than Boone’s cover of “Crazy Train” – and why not? After all, Ozzy and Pat had been neighbors and friends and in a 2002 article for People magazine, Ozzy is quoted as saying Pat was the best neighbor a person could ever have. Come explore – if you dare – the utterly separate, but forever entwined, musical careers of Pat Boone and Ozzy Osbourne.
