« back to classes page
Mention Roger Miller (1936-92) and people immediately remember the wide variety of novelty hits which propelled his vocal performances up the charts (“Dang Me,” “You Can’t Roller-Skate in a Buffalo Herd,” “Do-Wacka-Do,” you get the idea). But Miller was also a songwriter of great depth and versatility, composing some of his best material for other singers, and realizing his life-long dream of writing a Broadway musical with the premiere of Big River in 1985. He also became known for his evocative covers of some of the best songs of his era, including “Me and Bobbie McGee” and “Little Green Apples.”
