Music of the Crusades

« back to classes page
This class will provide an introduction to the music of the medieval era, before launching into the world of the Crusades. Minstrels and troubadours at times - unwillingly, no doubt! - followed their patrons into battle in foreign lands, where they discovered exotic musical instruments and new sounds. This new music would change the world of Gregorian chant in an exciting way, forever altering the course of western music. Come explore the world of troubadour and trouvère (some of whom were women), along with works alleged to be by the composer king himself, Richard the Lionheart.
