Oh, What A Lovely War! Music and Words of World War I

« back to classes page
Many of those who suffered the horrors of war in the past century were reluctant to talk about their experiences. Soldiers throughout history however, have used music as a coping mechanism, and their songs (which generally contain a subtext of anti-war sentiment) live on, and continue to tell their story. This class will explore the music of The War to End All Wars by looking at the songs and reminiscences of the soldiers themselves, including violinist Fritz Kreisler and the story of the Christmas Truce of 1914.
