Expressive Masks in Clay

The expressive power of masks is well known. They can communicate a variety of emotions and states of being. In this class you will make life sized, ornamental masks modeled on human or animal features. You will build your mask using slabs of clay over armatures. You will learn various ways to sculpt facial features that express emotion and vitality. These ceramic masks will be kiln-fired and prepared for wall hanging. This class is for beginning to intermediate students, instructor will provide most supplies. Please bring a sketchbook and an apron to the first class. Note: a $55 materials and firing fee will be payable to the instructor at the first session.
