The UNM Children’s Chorus, a division of the UNM Music Prep School, is a non-auditioned chorus for any child who wishes to sing. Singers must be willing to work as a team, commit to weekly rehearsals and to pursue the development of musicianship through singing. The choirs perform in at least two concerts per year for the community. Note: Each NEW singer will purchase a $12 polo shirt from the UNM Music Prep School for the concert uniform.
Senior Chorus (6th-12th grades) - Some prior singing experience is recommended but not required. The Senior Chorus will focus on literature for mixed choir as well as advanced treble music and will represent the UNM Children’s Chorus in community music events. Students will be encouraged to participate in the choral programs in their schools, when possible. Weekly rehearsals will focus on both individual musicianship and vocal technique and will require practice outside of rehearsal.
Teacher: Dr. Regina Carlow is the artistic director of the UNM Children’s Chorus and professor of music at UNM where she teaches choral methods courses and conducts the men’s choir. Dr. Carlow has worked throughout the US as a conductor, clinician and teacher and specializes in working with the changing and developing voice.
