Liberalism Conservatism and the American Constitutional System of Government

This course provides a brief introduction to some foundation thinkers such as Sir Edmund Burke, Montesquieu, John Adams, John Locke, Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Thomas Jefferson. Participants will then look at the various principles of the Constitution and its early development as well as evaluate the impact these opposing philosophies have on United States system of government.   These views of what government should be and what it should do are the basis of many of the issues we face on a day-to-day basis.  The underlying issue to be addressed is the Liberal and/or Conservative nature of the United States Constitution.
