An extensive two-day workshop exploring the monotype. This class is designed for the novice with little or no printing experience and the experienced. Monotype is simple to do and extremely rewarding. The monotype, a painterly process, can open your eyes to a whole new range of possibilities in your creative works while having fun with your surprising results.

The class will cover a wide range of techniques including additive or light field method, subtractive or dark field method, mixing of inks, ink rolling methods, masking and stencils, viscosity, plate and plate and paper registration and the use of the ghost print. Participants will learn how to get strong impressions with the use of rolling pins wooden spoons and pin press. Each person will explore their own creative visions while solving artistic and technical problems. There will be a PowerPoint and discussion on artists that do monotypes such as Klee, Matisse, Gauguin, Chagall, Picasso and contemporary artists. Upon completion of the class, you will have finished art pieces of your own to take home!

NOTE: A $5.00 materials fee will be collected by the instructor at the first class.
