Introduction to Knit Design

This one-day 2 hour class is meant for knitters who have already made knit clothing by following a pattern or by adjusting a pattern and who would like to learn how to design their own knit article of clothing and how to make the pattern pieces for it.  This class is recommended/required in order to take "Knit Design", an intensive step by step class which covers the creative and production processes from start to finish.

Class topics include:

  • How different yarns lend themselves to different types of clothing
  • Knit garment care and cleaning
  • Form follows function (pockets, closures) vs. fanciful romantic styles
  • Wardrobe building
  • Flattering one's own body dimensions
  • Measuring, swatches and gauges
  • Calculating the number of yarn skeins/balls needed for a complete project

Note: Teacher will give handouts and students may bring a digital device for notes.
