Railroads were the Space Program of the 1880's and New Mexico's railroading experiences continue today. How the Iron Steed shaped New Mexico politics, economics and law  is described in this presentation that covers an array of railroad milestones. From its entry through Raton Pass to the development of the Rail Runner Commuter Express, trains have effected nearly every county in the state. Their evolution continues.
